We have seen a rapid rise of the fast-fashion giants such as Shein and Temu in the past few years. All that postage has been paying a toll on the global air cargo industry! Shein and Temu send roughly 600,000 packages from China just to the US every day (U.S Congress report 2023). This is leading to an increase in air-freight costs and making off-peak season almost completely disappear.

On Saturday 20th April, join Fashion Revolution on the streets for the first global Mend In Public Day. The idea is simple: get out into your local community and stitch in protest against disposable fashion.

As our climate, ecological and social crises converge, urgent action is needed to maximize our chances of survival. A new commercial approach is possible but it requires a systemic shift, with companies learning to operate as part of a wider ‘ecosystem’, allowing fashion to restore what it has taken and redesign itself to operate within planetary boundaries.

On 21 Feb 2024 we joined Headington School in Oxford for the first ever SFW Hub in an education setting. This was an exciting step in the development of SFW activities and in reaching younger audiences.

According to NOAA 2023 was officially the hottest year on record globally! With it being the second-hottest year in the UK according to the Met Office. Along with the historic heat, 2023 also saw the Antarctic sea ice coverage dropped to a record low.

There is a major disconnect between what we wear and our knowledge of its impact on land, air, water, labor, and human health.

No one will be shocked to hear that Boohoo has been putting 'Made in UK' labels on clothing actually manufactured overseas.

For three years running, SFW has run our #MendItMay digital campaign across May, inviting people across the UK to take action and mend one item of clothing to save it from landfill. New for 2024 is our in-person repair demos and skills learning, aimed at school age children and parents.
