COLLAB: THE SFW 2022 CATWALK
Catwalk: Reinvented.
2022 saw us stage our first fashion show. This was a dynamic take on the standard fashion week catwalk - we worked with a host of community partners to showcase sustainability in fashion on the runway.
Each section was based on one of our four themes and staged by a collaborator.
Outfits were created, styled and modelled by students, makers, brands, designers and individuals from the community.
COMMUNITY PARTNERS
We couldn’t have been more excited to be including such a wonderful range of organisations – from nationally- loved brands such as Lucy & Yak, through to college students who represent the future of fashion.
The catwalk took place in the historic Mount Without in the heart of Bristol – an atmospheric space that we filled with sustainable style; with outfits that were preloved, repurposed or sustainable new. The evening was hosted by the inimitable Astro Zenica from the House of Savalon, using benecos’ natural and organic beauty products.
City of Bristol College is Bristol’s biggest provider of further education, offering technical and vocational courses, apprenticeships and A Levels to 16-18 year olds across the South West. The College’s engaging, career-driven Fashion courses are taught in their purpose-built fashion studio at College Green Centre, giving students plenty of opportunities to explore their creative talents and hone their craft in a real-world environment.
“We are so excited to partner with Sustainable Fashion Week to put on a fashion show of our students’ work around the theme of ‘Something from Nothing’. Our fashion students and lecturers are talented, creative and passionate about the environment and we know they will produce some fantastic work to display.”
WearMyWardrobeOut (WMWO) are the only truly circular and sustainable service brand in this space in the UK where we curate, hand pick, rent, repair, reinvent, recycle, upcycle and tailor fashion items under one service and one brand. We only rent and source items that are already in circulation or that are headed for landfill by extending their useful wearable life.
Founder Maria Loria offers a made to order service for conscious fashion consumers where they can bring us their own thrifted, discarded or pre-loved material for Maria to create a custom item for them to keep. We offer a service that meets the end-to-end need for sustainable fashion advocate customers at each stage of the fashion lifecycle and for their life events
Black 2 Nature campaign for equal access to nature for all but concentrate on VME communities who are currently excluded from the countryside. They run nature camps, arrange nature activities, organise race equality in nature conferences and campaign to make the nature conservation and environmental sectors ethnically diverse.
Future Leap give organisations and individuals the space, knowledge, contacts and tools to accelerate their sustainability journey. They do this by showcasing innovative solutions and facilitating future-thinking discussions. They deliver unique sustainability events throughout the South West, from workshops and networking events to art galleries, fashion shows and business festivals.
Lucy & Yak is an independent, people-focused brand, dedicated to upholding a positive environmental and social impact; showcasing that a business can and should be done differently. Known for its signature dungarees, joyful clothing, vibrant lifestyle products, alongside the powerful engagement of its community, they’re fast becoming the future of conscious living.
