SFW HUB: BRADFORD

Introducing our Hub partners in Bradford…

The Stitch Society are delivering our Bradford hub. Proud creators of artisan workwear, The Stitch Society produce all of their garments in Yorkshire, with UK manufactured and sourced fabrics. Durable, comfortable and stylish, each piece is made with the ethos of “Buy Once, Buy Well”. Mending and repair is integral to their philosophy, with the mission to minimise environmental impact and reduce waste at every opportunity.

Based in West Yorkshire, The Stitch Society celebrates the textile heritage of the area whilst promoting ethical fashion production and consumption. Famed for its worsted wool production, Bradford was once the powerhouse of the weaving industry, estimated to produce two thirds of UK wool alone in the 1850s and employing over 70,000 people.

The local textile industry is thriving with many businesses who survived the 1980’s downturn in textiles to become successful, international companies. There are a number of universities and colleges offering textile degree courses and research programmes linked with UKFT and Innovate UK.

British Wool are based in Bradford and will be taking part in Sustainable Fashion Week, highlighting British Wool, it’s sustainable properties and promoting the businesses in the UK who are using our wool.

As members of Blue Patch, the Sustainable Business Directory, The Stitch Society are advocates for sustainability within the clothing and textiles industries. Their artisanal workwear can be purchased from the store based in the historic Salts Mill, a UNESCO world heritage site in Saltaire, West Yorkshire.

Stay tuned for events that will form part of this year’s programme!

The SFW Hubs will take place on 30 September & 1 October 2023 as part of the wider SFW 2023 event.
