Introducing SFW ‘Future Citizen’
What Is SFW Future Citizen?
For 4 years, we’ve staged Sustainable Fashion Week (SFW) each September - uniting UK communities nationally through the power of taking action locally. Led by individuals, brands, organisations and community groups, SFW has grown each year but remains community-led for community benefit.
We’re now extending our programme to include a second annual week of action in February to align with conventional fashion weeks across the world.
Future Citizen is a week of action aiming to harness the power of education by uniting with places of learning for 11-23 year olds to share knowledge, inspiration and ways to take fashion action for the next generation of citizens and consumers.
Activities can be informative, creative, skills focused... or thought-provoking, emotive, or inspiring. They can have specific outcomes, or can simply open up a conversation. Activities can be hosted by the organisation or by the students themselves.
Who is it for? Who can be involved?
We’re connecting schools, colleges, universities and other education settings across the country, asking that they host one or a number of activities between 24th February - 2nd March to engage with their students, other local places of learning or their wider community.
There are so many ways of taking part and taking action. It can be as simple as a small one-off talk or workshop or have longer-term impact such as opening an ongoing uniform swap shop. Activities can be hosted by the organisation or by the students themselves.

Ideas can include a clothes swap, a ‘stitch in’ getting students to mend their clothing, a student catwalk showcasing second hand or upcycled clothing, a day of talks or workshops focused on sustainability, a film screening… the possibilities are endless!
