Macaila continues to bring sustainability practice into SBG, her sustainable lifestyle blog’s content production, and other creative projects, as a way to blend her passion for stewarding the earth with her love for storytelling.

Chicago Fair Trade Museum, Chicago Global Shapers, Waterbear, and Fashion Revolution, our Chicago Hub will debut a nine-day program that includes local free mending workshops, clothing swaps, a film screening, activism, policy writing sessions, and much more! Virtual and in-person opportunities will be available - keep your eyes peeled on the Hub webpage for further information.

West Suburban native, Environmental Advocate, and Sustainable Business Guide’s founder, Macaila Britton says: “We have such a great community and amazing resources in the city and throughout the suburbs. I wanted to lean into that and create something that could bring us together to explore ways we can build the sustainable future we want to be a part of. Fashion is one commonality — we all wear clothes. This is an avenue where we can learn about things such as where the items in our closet are made, what sustainability means when choosing what clothes to buy, and how we can make the best choices using the resources available to us.”

The opening weekend activities and others throughout the week located at The Nature Museum, are supported by the Museum’s program, Chicago Conservation Corps (C3). C3 Coordinator, Haven Denson, says, “C3 strives to renew hope in individual and community action in response to climate change and the need to live sustainably. We believe that everyone doing sustainability imperfectly is better than just a few people doing sustainability perfectly. By partnering with SFW, we hope to inspire folks to take meaningful action within their communities in whatever way feels right to them.”

The SFW Hub Chicago’s partnership with The Chicago Fair Trade Museum team helps to ensure the museum’s mission to inspire visitors to use their voice and spending power to demand ethically and sustainably-made products, is possible.

Macaila says, “The SFW Chicago Hub wouldn’t be possible without your support. Thank you to the community for rallying around the idea of debuting the Chicago hub. And, thank you to the partners for helping the idea become a reality! We can’t wait to see you at the events in September!”
